Cultivating Qi

An Intro to Qi Gong Workshop

QiGong WS page (1).png

Qigong (pronounced che-gong) is a form of gentle exercise that is a fundamental component of self-care in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Less acrobatic than many yoga forms and more active than most meditation practices, qigong is an ideal place to start if you’re looking to increase your activity level from a sedentary baseline. For more athletic participants, qigong will help you sleep well, improve memory and focus, feel more energized, and increase awareness around the ways your body moves through space.

This movement therapy gently strengthens, calms, and supports both body and mind. It involves meditation and repeated movements that improve circulation and increase qi (energy), encouraging an overall sense of well-being.

This workshop is led by Elizabeth Arris, DAcOM, L.Ac. Elizabeth is a licensed acupuncturist at Jade Integrated Health and a herbalist, NCCAOM Diplomate of Oriental Medicine, as well as a AOBTA-certified Medical Qigong practitioner.

The workshop is open to all levels. It will provide contextual information about the history and health benefits of qigong, and an opportunity to practice and ask questions.  Participants will leave with knowledge of several applicable movements and meditations to use at home.

Additional Details:

  • Wear comfortable clothes.

Spring Equinox

RESTORE AND RENEW WITH YIN YOGA & YOGA NIDRA

1.png

As we prepare for the arrival of Spring, we will use the powerful qualities of Yin Yoga and Yoga Nidra  to allow for opening and healing of our bodies and minds. Yin Yoga is a compliment to Yang styles of yoga, such as vinyasa and power yoga and utilizes longer held poses to release joints and fascia to allow the opening of the energy meridians in the body. Yoga Nidra means "yogic sleep" and is a systematic method of meditation that promotes deep rest and relaxation

This workshop is led by Diane Murphy Registered Yoga Teacher, RNBC and Life Force Yoga Practitioner, Level 1. Diane is a yoga teacher at Jade Integrated Health.

This event is open to all levels of yoga practitioners, as well as beginners. We will also be using essential oils that allow for deep relaxation and rejuvenation.

Running and Yoga Workshop

Running and Yoga Workshop.png

Many of us toss our running shoes away for the winter months and they reappear as the temperatures rise in the spring. Whether you are picking up running for the first time, getting back into it or are an avid marathoner this workshop is designed to balance the demands of running and improve your overall functionality while hitting your optimal stride and pace.

Although running is a great form of exercise, it doesn’t work the body evenly. Many painful running injuries can be linked to muscle imbalances in strength and or flexibility.  Furthermore, these asymmetries can contribute to poor running form, compounding the deleterious effects. This workshop is designed to teach you techniques to minimize injury risk and incorporate yoga for a well balanced routine.

This two hour workshop co-taught by physical therapist Melissa Belcher and certified yoga instructor Lauren Lauzier will cover common running hotspots, such as tightness in the hips and hamstrings. Melissa will be conducting a functional strength & flexibility screen, leading a brief discussion on running mechanics and guiding us in a dynamic warm up prior to a timed group 10 minute run. This is not intended to be a race but rather a chance to practice some of what you learn on a brief run so don't worry about your pace! Lauren will conclude the workshop with a yoga class designed for runners and a deep relaxation, this session will leave you feeling enthusiastic to lace up your sneakers!

Additional Details:

  • Wear clothing appropriate for running and yoga.
  • Bring a device for timing a 10 min run (watch, phone, etc.)
  • All yoga props and mats are provided.
  • This class is appropriate for all levels, including beginners.
